My Aunt Lucille was the first person I ever knew who had a PhD. I was young girl, but old enough to be in awe of her accomplishment. She died this weekend at age 90. Alzheimer's robbed much of her memory in her later years but she always loved to dance.
JOY LESSON: Never forget to dance
Ended the week with hate emails slamming me for my article I wrote about a bat in my house. One called me a bat hater. Another said I didn't deserve to own my own home. Whatever! I choose joy. Have a great weekend everyone!!

You may not know this about me, but I love children's books. I've collected at least 100 over the years. I adore a good story and beautiful illustrations.
Makes sense I start writing about them, right? Part of my #YearOfJoy is to write more about things that bring me joy.
Tonight I hosted the first "Inside LAUNCH with Joy Sewing" educational series with special guest LaQuishe Wright (Q), who manages the social media for Channing Tatum, Zac Ephron and more. We had an intimate talk about building your brand. She gave the emerging designers and me so much good info. Her message: Be authentic. #yearofjoy
Like many creative people, I dream in color and very vividly. Last night, Prince (the performer, not my dog) was in my dream. He was wearing a plain white button-down shirt and dark jeans. No stiletto boots, only a men's wedged loafer. We talked a bit before he went on stage to perform. I asked him why he was wearing something so conservative. He said now that he's free, he can wear whatever he wants. By the time he took the stage, I was in the front row. He reached down smiled at me, grabbed both of my hands and held them. He kept smiling and the crowd went nuts.
Then I woke up.
Among my many projects is a children's book based on the crazy life of my rescue boxers, Ava and Prince. Call myself trying to be professional with a bootleg studio in my living room for some shots of my crew. All they want to do is sleep on the damn sheets.
You have to laugh.
JOY LESSON: Laugh as often as possible.
