My day off. Slept 12 hours and walked 3 miles with the crew. Sometimes we forget to take care of ourselves, but we need to. It's the little things. #yearofjoy
Saying goodbye to a life of joy
Photo: Houston Chronicle
My colleague Houston Chronicle photographer Jake Nielsen died today at age 54. He had a childlike enthusiasm about every assignment, including my #YearOfJoy ice skating party. He took this photo. I'll miss him. To help his family with medical costs, there is this Go Fund Me account. Every bit helps. RIP, Jake. https://www.gofundme.com/give-it-up-for-jake?pc=fb_u_g
Our duty to live every day with joy
Watched a friend and colleague, Jake, who is on life support, be baptized today. He is the Houston Chronicle photographer who shot more than 800 images of my #YearOfJoy Holiday Ice Skating Party and gave them all to me. I think he enjoyed the party as much as the children.
There are no words to describe the feeling of seeing someone near death, but in that moment, it becomes very clear that life is precious, and it's our duty to live every day with joy. #yearofjoy
Walking in my purpose
Walking in my purpose. Thank you CEOglam Mandy Kao for these happy shoes! #yearofjoy
When I met Harry Belafonte
I've talked with many celebrities during my career, but interviewing a legend like Harry Belafonte was one of the most incredible experienced. And he loved my article and told me to keep up the good work. I nearly died.
He turns 90 March 1. #harrybelafonte #yearofjoy
A dream realized
I had always dreamed of a Hawaiian honeymoon. But four years ago, I took a dream vacation to Hawaii with my brother Jon Sewing. We hiked, surfed and swam with dolphins. Best sibling trip ever.
Lesson: Never hold onto one dream so tightly you miss another dream realized. #yearofjoy
